Dec 07, 2009 Sounds like you have either Word for the Mac or Word 2007. Try this if it's Word 2007: The dots and arrows certainly are a nuisance, but those strange ¶ symbols are really your friends. They show exactly where each paragraph ends. However, someone could have configured Word to always display paragraph marks, so this button might not have the expected result. In this case, click 'File,' 'Options' and then 'Display.' Deselect 'Paragraph Marks' and then click 'OK' to get rid of persistent paragraph formatting marks. What are the different types of formatting marks that can be revealed in a word document? With the help of show or hide tool in Word 2013, you will be able to reveal some of the marks like spaces, hidden text, paragraph symbols, optional hyphens, page breaks, tab characters, etc. Some of these marks are shown by default while some of them are. When you turn formatting marks on or off, your choice remains in effect for all subsequent messages you compose, reply to, or forward. Quickly toggle formatting marks. To turn formatting marks on or off, do the following: In the message window, on the Format Text tab, in the Paragraph group, click.
